The sooner you get that fixed, the better you’ll be able to prevent staining on your floors, walls and carpets. The longer you wait, the higher the odds of that leak turning into a gush that can cause some serious damage.
Firstly, don’t panic—but act fast. Turn the water supply off as soon as you can, then turn the electricity off. You’ll want to remove as much of the water that has spilled out from the pipe as you can manage. Once you’ve stopped the flow, you’ll need to find the source or cause of the leak, which is something only an experienced emergency plumber can do.
If you smell gas or something like a rotten egg, do not wait. Turn off all your gas appliances and get everyone out of your house right now and call an emergency plumber.
